Chennai: Man nabbed while fleeing with woman's purse
Chennai: Traffic police personnel chased a snatcher, who had a bad 'work' day, and caught when he tried to snatch a bag from a woman, on Friday night.
According to the police, Aparna (39) of Kaiyapuram near Teynampet was returning home from the airport with her family in an auto-rickshaw.
When the vehicle crossed Dr Radhakrishnan Salai, a two-wheeler rider followed the auto and suddenly snatched Aparna's bag and accelerated his two-wheeler.
Hearing her cries for help, traffic police personnel attached to Mylapore traffic police, who were in regular vehicle checking, chased the snatcher and caught him.
During the interrogation, the identity of the man was found as Vignesh (22) of Chintadripet. The police has filed a case and remanded him in judicial custody.
In another incident, an unidentified man had diverted a 70-year-old woman's attention and robbed 10 sovereigns on Kundrathur Road near Porur on Friday. The victim was identified as Ranganayagi (70) of Mugalivakkam. According to her complaint, a man had approached her when she was walking towards Porur around 1.30 pm.
“The unknown man posing as a policeman advised the woman to not to wear jewels as chain snatching incidents had taken place in the locality the previous day. He also offered to fold her two gold chains in a paper for which Ranganayagi obliged,” the police said. When she checked her bag after reaching her house, jewels were found missing. SRMC police have registered a case and are investigating.
