Chennai: The Valasaravakam police have arrested a 34-year-old man, who is said to be a BJP functionary, for allegedly fighting with a policewoman on duty and attacking another policeman on Friday night.
The incident happened when Suresh Kanna under the influence of alcohol started an argument with police personnel —Srilakshmi and Sathish —who were on a vehicle check duty at Kumaran Avenue.
“He also allegedly asked them to vacate the place and threatened them of dire consequences if they don't listen to him. Meanwhile, another cop Jothimani who reached the spot asked Suresh Kanna into the police vehicle, but since he refused, police tried to push him in the Jeep. However, Suresh Kanna pushed Jothimani down and injured him,” the police said.
However, Suresh Kanna was arrested. He is said to be BJP's youth wing executive member and he was reportedly been drunk when the incident happened, the police added.
