HYDERABAD: The Banjara Hills police collected CCTV footage of the burglar who, in the early hours of Monday, broke open the house of a businessman at Road Number 11 at Banjara Hills.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) M. Sudarshan, along with detective inspector Mohammed Hafeez and staff, checked the CCTV footage at Lakeview Function Hall at Road Number 11 Banjara Hills and identified the culprit who used an auto that parked before the function hall on the day of the incident, police sources said.

The police were able to identify the number of the autorickshaw used by the burglar, the police sources said.

However, the ACP refused to reveal the total worth of the stolen articles. Two mobile phones, a luggage bag, a brief case and about five wrist watches were reported to be stolen from the house. As the owner is a leading businessman, sources said, the briefcase and the luggage bag contained money and gold.

A Nepali watchman, Bahadur, who used to stay along with his wife and daughter at the victim’s house until 15 days ago, was expelled from job after he asked
Rs 3 lakh advance from the house owner for his cervical surgery, reliable sources said. “Very soon, we will get him and recover the stolen property,” a senior police officer said.

In 2021, an unidentified woman was found murdered near the nala. The residents said they felt unsafe as suspicious persons were still moving around after parking their vehicles at the dead end during nights and indulging in illegal activities.

An illegal, under construction building which was frequented by antisocial elements in the area was demolished by the GHMC in 2009, following complaints from locals.
