Hyderabad: 4 held for conning people with magical' powers

Last week, the accused cheated a person named Md Imran out of Rs 20,000.

Hyderabad: The West Zone team of the Commissioner’s Task Force apprehended four persons accused of cheating people by selling them “magical” copper bowls that emitted light and had spiritual powers.

The accused were identified as Bandari Suresh Yadav (44), a wall painter from Komapally, Jamalpuri Mahesh (33), a rental agent from Amerpet, Syed Sadath Hussain (37), a businessman in the real estate business from Mancherial, and G. Vishnath (30), a businessman from Langer House.

“The accused created a set up using a microwave oven, electrical cables and copper bowls, to make people believe that the copper bowls emitted light. They cheated customers by telling them that the bowls were magical and that they were in huge demand abroad, where they sold for up to '3 crore. They said that whoever had used the bowls had become wealthy within a short period of time,” said Radha Kishan Rao, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force.

Last week, the accused cheated a person named Md Imran out of Rs 20,000.
The task force seized two copper bowls, a plastic table, a microwave oven, electrical wires, three torch lights, 34 torch batteries, four chemical bottles and five cell phones from their possession. The accused and the materials seized from them were handed over to the Station House Officer of SR Nagar Police Station for further investigation.
