Rs 96 lakh in foreign notes seized at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
Hyderabad: Sleuths from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have arrested two passengers at the city's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport seizing Rs 96 lakh in foreign currencyconcealed in burkhas and check-in baggage.
According to DRI additional director-general M.K. Singh, the two passengers were about to board Flydubai flight FZ-436 bound to Dubai from Hyderabad on Sunday. DRI officers found that the accused had wrapped the currency within burkhas using tape. US dollars, UAE Dirhams, Bahrain dinars and Saudi Riyals worth Rs 48.52 lakh and Indian rupees worth Rs 46 lakh were seized.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence said it is a violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act and Customs Act. The accused were produced before a special judge for economic offences at Nampally and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
