Hyderabad: A 33-year-old housewife was brutally murdered by her husband in Saidabad on Sunday midnight over an alleged affair.
Police said that Venkatesh hit his wife Kalpana on her face and head with a hammer and killed her after an argument. Neighbours who rushed to the house hearing their three-year-old daughter crying for a long time found Kalpana dead in a pool of blood.
Police said that P. Kalpana, 33, hailed from Nalgonda district and P. Venkatesh, 37, from Mahbubnagar district. They got married nearly 10 years ago. The couple who has three children settled in Chintal Basthi in Saidabad. Their children Varalaxmi, 8, Ajay Kumar, 6, and Srinidhi, 3, are attending a nearby Anganwadi. The couple worked as stone cutters on daily wages.
Trouble began in the family three years ago with Venkatesh getting addicted to alcohol and started harassing Kalpana over an alleged affair. The couple quarrelled over this whenever Venkatesh came home drunk.
On Sunday night Kalpana was sleeping at home with their youngest daughter Srinidhi. Varalaxmi and Ajay Kumar slept at their grandparents house nearby.
Around 11.30 pm Venkatesh came home drunk and picked up an argument with Kalpana. “Venkatesh took a hammer used for breaking stones and hit Kalpana on the face and head killing her on the spot,” inspector Srinivas said.
Neighbours who were used to fights between the couple thought it was one such. But when the child kept crying continuously they rushed to the home and saw Kalpana lying dead in a pool of blood.
Based on a complaint from Kalpana’s elder brother Mahesh a murder case was registered against Venka-tesh who is on the run. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
