Two Nirbhaya convicts seek stay of death warrants
Long-running saga of Nirbhaya hangings continues
New Delhi: The long-running saga of the Nirbhaya hangings continued today with two of the four convicts, Akshay Singh and Pawan Kumar Gupta, approaching a Delhi court seeking a stay on the execution of death warrants issued against him and three others.
The Delhi court directed the Tihar Jail authorities to respond by Monday on convict Akshay Singh's plea.
Convict Pawan Kumar Gupta sought a stay of the executions as his curative petition challenging the conviction is pending in the Supreme Court.
As per a Delhi High Court order, the four convicts are to be hanged together, not individually.
The four convicts -- Singh, Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Akshay Kumar -- are scheduled to be hanged at 6 am on March 3.
