BENGALURU: The Sanjaynagar police have arrested four men who allegedly assaulted four students from Kerala in Byrappa Layout in Bhoopasandra in Sanjaynagar late on Friday night.

The accused have been identified as Basavaraju, 23, Ranganatha Swamy, 29, Sunil 26, and Santosh, 24, all residents of Nagashettihalli. Two of them are car drivers while the other two are private company employees.

On Friday night, Mervin Michael Joy, 22, and four of his friends were allegedly attacked by a gang after he questioned them about deflating his bike tyres. He received nine sutures in the head after the accused attacked him with a bamboo stick.

The four men were arrested based on the information provided by the victims, local residents and the footage captured by the CCTV cameras installed in the locality.

“The accused have stated that it was Joy and his friends who falsely accused them of deflating the bike tyres, which led to the incident. We are probing the statements made by both the parties,” DCP (North) T.R. Suresh told Deccan Chronicle.
