Bengaluru: The city traffic police have started a special drive to crack down on residents and institutions that encroach roads and use it as a 'reserved' parking space for their vehicles in the city.
Taking cognizance of multiple complaints that some residents have built barriers on the roads to reserve the parking space for their own vehicles, the city traffic police have decided to remove such illegal parking lots and to tow away vehicles parked in such spaces.
In one of his tweets, DCP East (Traffic) Abhishek Goyal said the road belongs to every commuter and no one has the right to 'reserve' slots in front of their house or office to park their vehicles. We will dismantle such illegal parking lots and tow away vehicles parked in such spaces, he added. "There are a lot of such illegal parking lots near our office, where the residents have reserved the space for their vehicles and they don't let others park," said Ravi, who works at a private company in Malleswaram.
Aishwarya, a college student said that most houses near colleges will have 'reserved' parking barricades on the road side to prevent college students from parking near their houses. Even if there are no barricades and if we park near their house, they will push our vehicles and leave it on the middle of the road, which often gets towed away the traffic police. When we try to explain the police, they say that the residents have complained saying our vehicles was parked in front of their house, whereas it was parked next to their gate and not in its front.
A senior official said such illegal parking lots will be removed and the residents have no right to place barriers. People can report to the police about such illegal parking lots and action will be taken.
