Steps to curb cyber crimes in place: Mahesh Bhagwat
Hyderabad: Around 1,173 cases of cyber crimes were reported this year, with Rachakonda officials arresting 116 accused.
The cases included 18 frauds by Nigerians, 43 job frauds, 34 ATM cloning, 159 related to social media, 60 online market fraud and 23 loan frauds, said officials.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat pointed out that every local police station was registering cyber crime cases. Approximately 257 FIRs were registered from among 3,291 petitions that were received during the year.
“As many as 1,937 complaints received via petitions are under progress. We froze Rs 3.8 crore in bank accounts and disposed of 1,097 cases this year,” he said.
Meanwhile, in order to enlighten people against falling prey to cyber frauds, the department conducted several awareness programs during the year, including webinars, workshops, and TV and radio broadcasts.
