Thiruvananthapuram: The virus attack on the main server of the District Mercantile Cooperative Society here the other day was found to be a ‘Dharma’ ransomware. Thiruvananthapuram-range IG and Cyberdome nodal officer Manoj Abraham said that not much damage was caused to the computer and the data was secure. The bank had also backed up the data.

He also said that earlier also there were some instances of Dharma ransomware attack in the state. It was difficult to identify the exact sources of the attack, he said. The ransomware attack came to light on Tuesday. Cyber police initially suspected that the attack had originated from outside the country. The incident had triggered an alert among the cyber police and IT sections of all major institutions as the state was also hit by the Wannacry ransomware a few months back.
