Kerala: Youth arrested for bullying actor Parvathy

The police arrested him from his residence.

Kochi: The Ernakulam South Police on Wednesday arrested a 23-year old man identified as Printo, son of Lonappan, belonging to Vadakkencherry in Thrissur district for cyberbullying on a complaint of actor Parvathy. The police arrested him from his residence. He was charged under Section 67 of the IT Act. Cops said they traced his mobile phone and residential address with the help of the Cyber Cell. Parvathy faced bullying on social media following her critical comments against misogyny in Mammootty's dialogues in Kasaba.

The police, which registered an FIR under Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act, said they are also on the lookout for other cyber bullies. They produced the man before the magistrate on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody. Parvathy has expressed her observations during an Open Forum held by Women in Cinema Collective during the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2017 at Thiruvananthapuram. Soon she came under verbal abuse and threats on social media and got trolled.

“Kasaba was a movie which I unfortunately watched... I was definitely disappointed to watch an actor par excellence, who happened to say certain dialogues which were not only derogatory but also most saddening to a woman in a scene,” she had said. Rejecting the defence that it reflected the society around, she had said, "That's true. But the line has to be drawn between reflecting reality, and glorifying it."
