Uttar Pradesh girl alleges torture at home
KOZHIKODE: A 15-year-old girl from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, staying in Pulikkal, Malappuram, with her family, has complained of physical torture at a Nirbhaya shelter home in Manjeri. Manjeri police took the statement of the girl admitted to a hospital in Feroke Chungam on Saturday. Sub-inspector Riyas Chakeri, who is investigating the case, told Deccan Chronicle that she was taken to the shelter on a false complaint the Childline received from one of her teachers.
“The complaint was that of her brother sexually abusing her, and that complaint turned out to be false after a medical examination," he said. "However, there was also suspicion that the girl was undergoing child labour as per the statement of her classmates, which the girl denied. The complaint regarding her physical torture at the shelter is being probed. In the preliminary investigation, there is nothing to file a case,” said the SI.
He would submit a report to the social justice department as well as his higher-ups. The parents of the girl, a Class IX student, reached Pulikkal 18 years ago, and her father and brother work in the tiles and construction sector. The mother is a beautician. The girl jumped the shelter thrice and reached home twice. In the first instance on November 2, she was taken back as per the procedures of the Juvenile Justice Board. In the second instance, she was caught from a nearby bus stop, and in the last attempt on Thursday, she reached home and got admitted to the hospital.
