Thiruvanthapuram: Four men including cop held for raping tribal woman

The police registered a case on intimation from the hospital and arrested all accused on Sunday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Naruvamoodu police has arrested four men including a senior civil police officer attached to Thiruvanthapuram city control room for allegedly gangraping a 22-year old tribal woman. The accused have been identified as Sajad, 24, Sreejith, 24, Biju 49, and police official Afail, 45, residents of Malayankeezhu and Kattakada. The police said the woman, hailing from Naruvamoodu, met Sreejith at General Hospital last Monday when she went there with her aunt.

The duo exchanged phone numbers and planned a meeting. On Friday, she was picked up in a vehicle by Sreejith and Sajad. They took her to the house of Afail at Choozhattukotta near Malayankeezhu and gangraped her. “Afail and his friend also tried to rape her,” a police official said. “She escaped from them and got admitted at Medical College Hospital. She has no serious injuries.” The police registered a case on intimation from the hospital and arrested all accused on Sunday. They have been booked under IPC Section 370 for rape and relevant sections of SC/ST Act.

City police commissioner Sparjan Kumar said the accused policeman will be placed under suspension based on a report from Neyyatinkara deputy superintendent of police M.K.
