Bengaluru: A 16-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging at her residence in HSR Layout on Friday evening after she was told to do housework.
The deceased has been identified as Shatabdi Das, the eldest daughter of Nitish Kumar Das and Meena Das. The couple resided in a rented house in Parangipalya along with their two daughters.
The police said that Nitish is a private company employee, while Meena is a homemaker. Shatabdi had discontinued studies after failing in class ten.
According to the police, Shatabdi’s mother was unwell and Nitish to her to cook and clean the utensils. She initially refused, but complied after her mother forced her.
After finishing her work, she locked herself inside her room and hung to the ceiling. The police suspect she was depressed on being forced her to do housework. HSR Layout police have registered a case.
