Tiff over TV volume: Assistant director killed
CHENNAI: A 35-year-old assistant director was killed by his friend over an argument while watching television at their apartment in Valasaravakkam on Thursday night. Akil Kannan (35), a native of Dindigul, was sharing the apartment on VOC Street in Valasaravakkam with five of his friends, the police said. “Akil was under the influence of alcohol on Thursday night when a quarrel erupted between him and his roommate for watching television in high decibel. The verbal duel soon turned into fisticuffs that left Akil with severe head injuries,” police said.
The incident occurred at around 9:40 pm. He was later rushed to the nearest hospital where he succumbed to injuries on Friday morning. His friend, identified as Karthikeyan (34), a resident of T Nagar, who also works as an assistant director, surrendered at the Valasaravakkam police station. Subsequently, a case has been registered and further investigations are on. Akil Kannan is married and has two children, residing in their native town. He worked as an assistant director in Annadurai, which is yet to be released.
