Police laxity alleged in arresting murderer
Kollam: The Chathannoor police are yet to arrest Ali Akbar, who allegedly murdered his mother-in-law Ayisha Beevi, 72, of Yahiya Manzil in Muttakkavu two weeks ago.
Her family has alleged that the police is reluctant to arrest Ali Akbar because of their connections with him, the leader of a sand mafia in the area.
The police charged him with sections of murder based on a complaint filed by his wife A. Naseera, daughter of Ayisha Beevi. The family members will take out a march towards the Chathannoor ACP office on November 2 demanding action against the culprit.
The incident happened following domestic disputes. He had married Naseera 13 years ago but was not on good terms with her for some time. On October 15, Ali Akbar barged into the house where Naseera and her mother Ayisha Beevi lived and attacked them using an iron rod. Aisha Beevi sustained fractures on her skull and backbone. She was taken to a hospital where she died two days later.
Naseera also alleged the culprit had been physically assaulting her for the last three years.
“He even tried to kill my elder daughter. There are at least six cases registered against him for assaulting me. My bones were broken several times in the attack using iron rods. The lives of my daughters are in danger,” she said.
Ali Akbar allegedly attempted to murder her several times, alleged Naseera. “The police have not taken any action against him despite repeated pleas to ensure our safety,” she said.
