Bengaluru: Gang of six held for stealing construction equipment

The police have recovered centring sheets, jack rods, steel and a tempo worth Rs 15 lakh from the accused.

Bengaluru: Four thieves, who were stealing equipment from construction sites, and two others who bought the stolen items from them have been arrested by the Sampigehalli police.

The four arrested thieves have been identified as Govindan (38), Gunashekar (29), Sakthivelu (27) and Ramu (49), all of them residents of Dharmapuri district in Tamil Nadu. The other two accused who bought the stolen items are Venkatesh (31) and Arul Kumar (40), both residents of Yelahanka.

According to the police, a number of complaints were filed at the Sampigehalli police station in connection with a series of thefts at the construction sites in its limits. The police who formed a team and took up the investigation found four persons moving around in a suspicious manner near Rachenahalli Railway Parallel Road. “When we detained them for investigation, we found lethal weapons in their possession following which they were interrogated. They confessed to stealing equipment from construction sites,” a police officer said.

The accused also revealed the names of the people whom they sold the stolen items to at dirt cheap prices, following which the two were arrested by the police. With all the six arrests, the police claim to have solved various cases of thefts reported in Bagalur, Kothanur, Airport road and Yalahanka.

The police have recovered centring sheets, jack rods, steel and a tempo worth Rs 15 lakh from the accused.
