Villagers attack police team in Bulandshahr, constable injured

Bulandshahr: A police team was allegedly attacked by the residents of Azizabad village in Bulandshahr when it had gone to probe a complaint of loot, police said on Friday.

Sub-inspector Ravinder Singh, along with constable Vimlesh and a jeep driver, had gone to Azizabad village to probe a complaint of loot of Rs 5,000, said Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jagdish Sharma.

When the policemen reached the village, they were attacked by the locals, who also snatched their rifles, cartridges, magazines and mobile phones, the officer said.

While the sub-inspector and the jeep driver managed to escape from the scene, the villagers caught hold of constable Vimlesh and thrashed him, he added.

Later, sub-inspector Ravinder Singh informed the control room, following which reinforcement arrived from the adjoining police station and Vimlesh was rescued, he said.

Police were conducting house-to-house search to recover the guns and ammunitions, said Jagdish Sharma, adding that an FIR has been lodged after identifying 10 assailants and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
