Hyderabad: A man who is reportedly diagnosed with psychiatric illness was kicked and assaulted by sub-inspector Lenin Goud of Ravoli police in Gadwal-Jogulamba district on Sunday. Top officials said that an enquiry was launched into the incident.
The short video of the incident has been going viral on social media platforms, wherein the man, later identified as Lakshman, is being kicked in his face by sub-inspector Lenin Goud. The video shows Lakshman collapsing on the ground. The SI was also heard abusing Lakshman in the video.
Asked about the incident, Gadwal-Jogulamba district SP Rajan Ratan Kumar said that the locals near the farm complained to the police that Lakshman consumes alcohol at a spot which causes inconvenience to them.
“During the interrogation when the SI, along with police staff in a patrol van, went to question Lakshman, he allegedly pushed the SI and a constable and also reportedly damaged the police vehicle, following which the official pinned him down and assaulted him. It was found that Lakshman is addicted to alcohol and has psychiatric issues. An enquiry has been launched into the case and action will be taken accordingly.,” said the official.
