HYDERABAD: A local court on Thursday awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to an accused for raping a minor girl, four years after the crime. A Saidabad police official said, the convict, R. Sai Ram, 21, a second year degree student, was a neighbour of the victim. Sai Ram was arrested based on a complaint from the victim’s father who said that his minor daughter had fallen in love with the accused in 2015. Whenever his daughter was alone in the house, Sai Ram would visit their house and sexually exploit her.
When they came to know of this, the parents asked Sai Ram to marry their daughter but he refused. Following this, the parents complained against him in the Saidabad police station. Additional metropolitan session judge Suneetha Kunchala sent Sai Ram to jail for raping the victim who was 15 at that time. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000. Sai Ram was tried under Section 42 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 for raping the minor.
