30 Dhoolpet ganja traders attack police station

There were 11 constables during the attack on the police station.

Hyderabad: Thirty members of a family who were in the illegal ganja business attacked the Dhoolpet police station on Thursday morning demanding that two accused who were arrested for possessing the narcotic be released.

Dhoolpet inspector Gangadhar and assistant sub-inspector Naveen Kumar were injured in the scuffle. According to the excise police, they had nabbed one Arthibai and her son Uday Singh who were in illegal possession of 1.2 kg of ganja on Wednesday night and brought them to the police station.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Gangadhar said, “A mob of 30 members led by Anguribai and Surender Singh, the sister and brother respectively of Arthibai, attacked the police station. The family was in the illegal ganja business and police has arrested them many times and even jailed them. Even the Preventive Detention Act was invoked on some of them. However, they did not change.” There were 11 constables during the attack on the police station. Mr Naveen Kumar was severely injured and Mr Gangadhar escaped with minor injuries.
