Andhra Pradesh: Leaders corrupt police

Higher-ups in police department also expressed their discomfiture over the trend.

Nizamabad: Tainted police officers manage to escape disciplinary action as a section of elected representatives, particularly MLAs, protect them.

It is believed that political leaders are involved in the transfers of police officers, which is adversely affecting the morale of sincere officers. Higher-ups in police department also expressed their discomfiture over the trend.

Police sub inspectors were transferred in spells in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts recently and tainted officers managed to escape from departmental action and continue their postings in focal points. Senior police officers tried to initiate action against some S-Is in both districts, but failed to do so.

Allegedly, tremendous pressure from political leaders has forced the senior officers to maintain status quo on controversial postings. Reportedly, a few SIs protect the political interests of elected representatives and hence are in their good looks. Are a result of their closeness to leaders, some S-Is face charges of corruption and negligence of duty.

An elected representative told this newspaper on condition of anonymity that he never interfered in transfers of police officers. “I advice police officers to work their level best and not to try to please anyone,” he said. Collecting money from police officers postings and using them for misdeeds will definitely affect our political future, he said.

A few MLAs refer certain police officers of their community for postings. It’s an open secret that police officers of a particular community police officers are more in constituencies held leaders of the same community.

Intelligence wing has collected inputs in this regard and submitted them to the government. It is high time to exempt police officers transfers based on political leaders recommendations, observers said.
