Two held for hacking medico, hijacking car in Chennai
Chennai: Two persons, of whom was one was a city college student, were arrested six hours after their 4-member gang hacked a 22-year-old medico and drove away his car while he was having tea in Maduravoyal, on Monday night.
The police said A. Vetri Vignesh (22), of Muthialpet in Puducherry pursuing his post-graduation in medicine at SRMC, was returning in his Honda Amaze to his hostel accommodation after having dinner at around 10.15 pm when the incident took place.
While passing Eri Karai signal near Maduravoyal, Vetri pulled his car over at a roadside teashop when a gang surrounded him. They forced the medico to part with his money at knifepoint when he disclosed that he was carrying cash only for his dinner.
The gang then hacked Vetri and pinned him down and grabbed the car keys from him and drove away in his car. Vetri alerted the cops and got admitted to a hospital. A team of police officials from Maduravoyal took the complaint from the injured, and alerted the control room about the details of the hijacked car.
The info was relayed to all the night patrolling units and the vehicle checkpoints were subsequently alerted. Realising they were trapped, the gang parked the car near a teashop in Anna Nagar and was waiting to wear out the security watch so that they could get away with the vchicle.
A four-wheeler patrol team from Anna Nagar comprising SI Subbaiah and constable Anand spotted the car parked on 10th Main Road, in Anna Nagar and closed in on it.
Sighting the police vehicle, the two got off the car and were caught in their attempt to flee while the rest made good their escape with the car. The two were identified as J. Vingesh (20), resident of Anna Street, Old Thirumangalam and a second year student in a city college and A. Vignesh (24), resident of Pachaikal Veerasamy street, Slum Clearance Board tenement, Ayanavaram. The latter has a murder case pending against him while the former appears to be a first timer. Efforts are on to trace the others.
