Delhi: Boys who stabbed teacher in class wanted to kill vice-principal too
New Delhi: Two class 12 students of a government school in West Delhi's Nangloi area, who stabbed their teacher to death in front of classmates on Tuesday, also wanted to kill the vice-principal.
The students had allegedly stabbed Mukesh, a Hindi teacher, after they were not allowed to sit for an examination due to lack of sufficient attendance.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, an hour before they murdered their teacher, the two boys had gone to the vice-principal’s office seeking transfer certificate.
“One of the juveniles had a knife hidden under his shirt. But the vice-principal refused to give the transfer certificate and instead asked them to meet their class teacher Mukesh Kumar,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
“They told us they were furious and would have knifed the vice-principal in his room but could not do it because other teachers came there,” the officer added.
The incident took place around 5 pm when the students were writing their exam at the Government Senior Secondary School. "Mukesh Kumar was stabbed thrice allegedly by the two boys in front of the entire class, after which the two boys fled," a police officer said.
"One of the accused was expelled for low attendance. He went to the school to speak with Mr Kumar. During the conversation, the boy and his friend, who was writing the exam, reportedly lost their temper, and in a fit of rage, stabbed Mr Kumar," the police said, adding that "one of the accused is 18 years old while the other will turn 18 in two months."
The two were taken into custody by the police on Tuesday. "One class 12 student was arrested and one juvenile apprehended," Joint CP (Delhi) said.
The teacher was rushed to Balaji Action hospital in Delhi, but he succumbed to the injuries. Gulab Sharma, another school staff, alleged that the hospital delayed in giving Mukesh treatment. "The hospital authorities asked to deposit money first before treatment," another school staff said.
Teachers organised a protest at the Nangloi school following the teacher's death.
The two had planned the murder a week before and had saved around Rs 200 for a week to buy knife. On Monday, they went to the Sultanpuri market near the school and bought a knife for Rs 100.
An 'attempt to murder' case was registered at the Nangloi Police Station and the family members of the accused are being questioned to know the whereabouts of the duo, the officer said.
