Jaipur: A two-year-old girl was raped by a 70-year-old man at Makkasar village in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan late on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the girl was playing with some kids near her house in Makkasar village when the accused identified as Gurbej Singh, an ex-serviceman, took her into his house and raped her. Some people in the neighborhood raised an alarm when they found the girl missing.
The people informed the girl’s parents and one of the children playing with her told them that the accused has taken her to his house. He was then caught and handed over to the police, reports said.
The police in the district said they will ‘work hard to file a chargesheet’ against the accused within three days, the SP said. He said even the police force was in shock after they learnt of the heinous crime.
“I have set up a team of RPS officers who are engaged to collect all medical and circumstantial evidences to consolidate the case against the accused. I have asked them to file the chargesheet within three days to a week,” SP Sharat Kaviraj was quoted as saying.
He said that as news of the crime spread, a large number of people assembled outside the police station and demanded that the accused be handed over to them. However, they were pacified by the police who promised action.
Kaviraj also visited the victim’s family and told them to inform the police if they were pressurized by the accused’s relatives.
The SP said that an offence had been booked under Prevention of Child Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and medical examination of the toddler had been carried out. “We have given the family some phone numbers on which the family can call in case of any emergency," the SP added.
