Irked over scanty loot, burglars set house afire

HYDERABAD: Unidentified burglars, allegedly upset over not finding enough valuables to steal, wreaked havoc at a house in Old Alwal as they set the place on fire and sprinkled chilli powder before decamping with cash and valuables during the wee hours of Saturday.

According to the Alwal police, a complaint was received from Bangaru Reddy,
who has a house in Presidency Colony of Old Alwal, that burglars broke into
his house while he was away to celebrate his parents’ wedding anniversary at
Dilsukhnagar. “

He mentioned that Rs 80,000 cash and some other valuables were missing from his house. The men, who broke into the house to steal, allegedly set the place on fire and sprinkled chilli powder to evade police investigation before escaping. The neighbours noticed the flames and called the fire control room," said the police.

Officials from the fire department said they had received a distress call at
5.49 am and sent one fire tender to the spot. "The neighbours already
started dousing the flames and our firefighters joined them and it took
about 15 minutes to get the situation under control. The police booked a
case and started a probe to ascertain loss estimates," said Raghava Reddy,
fire officer from Alwal.
