Bengaluru: Posing as cop, man rapes college student, held
Bengaluru: A 32-year-old mobile phone shop owner, who allegedly kidnapped and raped a 17-year-old girl by posing as a cop, was arrested by the Yelahanka New Town police on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Vishwa alias Vishwanath, a resident of Yelahanka New Town.
According to police, Vishwa runs a mobile shop near New Town shopping complex. On July 23 he allegedly forced a girl into his car and drove to an isolated place and then to his room, where he allegedly raped her.
The police said the accused first met the girl in a park where she was sitting with her classmate. Introducing himself as a policeman from crime branch, Vishwa warned the boy and the girl against sitting together in the park as they were minor.
He threatened to book a criminal case if they continued to roam around together. Vishwa took the address and phone numbers of both boy and the girl and left the spot.
Later he allegedly called the girl many times on her mobile phone and tried to befriend her.
On July 23 when the girl was returning home from the college, Vishwa, who was allegedly tracking her movements, approached her and expressed his wish to talk to her regarding ‘something important’.
When the girl refused to talk to him, an enraged Vishwa forced her into his car and drove to an isolated place.
As the girl had realised Vishwa’s intention, she screamed for help, but Vishwa allegedly threatened to kill her by pointing a gun-like lighter on her temple. He then drove his car to his room where he allegedly raped her.
The girl, however, did nt tell about the incident to anyone until Thursday when she approached the police and filed a complaint.
Based on the complaint, the police who booked the accused under POCSO Act and arrested him. He was later produced before a court.
