Telangana: Probe into girl's death in hospital
Hyderabad: The State Human Rights Commission has ordered the DMHO Hyderabad district to submit a report on Century Hospital collecting Rs 5 lakh from the parents of a six-year-old suffering from bone marrow cancer.
The Balala Hakkula Sangham filed a petition before the SHRC stating that the hospital had collected Rs 5 lakh from the girl’s parents making false promises. The hospital, however, denied the allegation saying that the girl left the hospital against medical advice and they did not collect any money from her parents. The commission ordered the DMHO to submit a report by October 12.
The victim, Lavanya, was the daughter of Krishnaswamy and Kalpana. She was admitted to Century Hospital on July 21 with bone marrow cancer. The Sangham said the hospital assured to transplant marrow and cure the child. But they put the child on ventilator and collected money from the illiterate parents. The hospital violated the rights of the child by not even informing her parents about her death. The hospital said the parents approached the hospital a year ago. The doctors suggested transplant but they went back and came again a year later. “The hospital did not take money. We helped them to apply for the CM’s Relief Fund,” operations manager K. Ramasubba Reddy said.
