Groom on the run: Con man who cheated 50 women held by the Bagalur police
Bengaluru: A 28-year-old man, who allegedly cheated more than 50 women by posing as a prospective husband, after getting in touch with them through matrimonial websites, has been arrested by the Bagalur police.
Investigations revealed that he had allegedly sexually abused several women besides cheating many of them to the tune of Rs 45 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Sadath Khan, a resident of Hassan, who cheated women using aliases such as Preetham Kumar, Rahul, Prashanth, Karthik, etc. An ITI diploma drop out, he was earlier working as an auto driver and a telecaller, but was sacked from the job after he allegedly cheated women employees.
Police said that after losing job, Sadath created fake profiles in matrimonial websites. He claimed he was a government employee, software engineer and entrepreneur in different profiles and uploaded morphed photographs of him standing in front of villas and expensive cars.
Once women showed interest in his profile, then he befriended them and used them to pay for his vices. To impress them and to make them believe he is a rich man, he used to take them to star hotels.
"He used to give one or the other reason to borrow money from them citing he was in dire need of cash. Once he got the money, he used to avoid them. Using that money, he again started impressing other women. As of now, eight such cases are registered against him. Those who have been cheated by him can file a complaint," the police added.
