Nigerian woman creates ruckus in Bengaluru hospital
BENGALURU: All hell broke loose on Monday evening at National Market in Upparpet police limits after a 24-year-old Nigerian woman created ruckus and injured herself under the influence of alcohol.
The police said the woman, Maria, a resident of Yelahanka and an MBA student of Reva College, had come to National Market with her boyfriend in an inebriated state.
She went to a store to buy a mobile phone, but banged the glass cash counter, shattering it into pieces. The shopkeeper alerted the police, who rushed to the spot.
As a police team picked her up and took her to K.C. General Hospital, she attacked the policemen, doctors and patients. When the police tried to control her, she alleged that they were trying to kill her.
A home guard threw a blanket on her, but Maria started chasing policemen and barged into the emergency room. Finally, the police and others overpowered her and took her inside the hospital.
“No complaint was registered, but the Upparpet police booked her under Sections 41a, 24 and 504 of IPC. The police are verifying her background and passport details,” a police officer said.
Doctors at K.C. General Hospital were taking part in a review meeting when the chaos broke out. Dr Manjunath, medical superintendent, said that Maria has been referred to Nimhans for medical examination.
“We are not sure whether she was under the influence of any substance or she has any mentally ill. Even patients with acute psychosis have a tendency to behave aggressively,” he said.
Maria kicked two doctors when they were trying to put her on IV fluids. “We had to shift other patients from the casualty to the next room as Maria was very violent,” he said.
