Kerala rape and murder case: Auto driver identifies guilty

The Special Investigation Team has been interrogating him for the past seven days.

Kochi: An auto driver whose vehicle was reportedly hired by prime suspect Ameerul Islam after murdering dalit law student Jisha at her house at Vattolipaddi, Perumbavur, on April 28 identified the Assamese native during another round of identification parade held on Monday.

The driver hailing from Vattolippady identified Ameerul standing among a group of other inter-state migrants during an identification parade held at the Aluva police club. He told the sleuths that it was the same person who had hired the vehicle to travel from Vattolippady to Aluva railway station on April 28 night.

Earlier, three other witnesses, including the owner of the building where Ameerul had stayed, and a woman living in the victim’s neighbourhood, had identified Ameerul during a similar exercise. Meanwhile, a team of police from Assam is set to reach here to interrogate the accused. The Special Investigation Team has been interrogating him for the past seven days.

The cops are desperate to recover the murder weapons and also find out the murder motive. They also plan to subject Ameerul to a lie detection test as he keeps on changing his versions.

Meanwhile, the sleuths are tracking the mobile tower location of Anarul Islam, the friend of the prime suspect, whom they now suspect to have a role in the murder, especially in evidence destruction. Ameerul had changed his initial statement and told the police the other day that his friend also had a role in murdering the law student and that it was the latter who attacked her more that day.
