Police search for girl child killer in Coimbatore

On receiving information, Saravanampatti police rushed to the spot and sent the body to CMCH for post-mortem.

Coimbatore: Police have launched a search for a man who is on the run after allegedly murdering a three-year-old girl over an extra marital affair near Saravanampatti in the suburbs of Coimbatore. According to police, residents of Karattumedu near Saravanampatti noticed a baby lying dead on the road heading to the Karattumedu hill-Murugan temple on Monday morning.

On receiving information, Saravanampatti police rushed to the spot and sent the body to CMCH for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations revealed that a man was roaming in the foothills of Karattumedu along with the same baby on Sunday evening while a woman was searching for her baby near Sarvanampatti. The woman was shocked to see her baby dead after police asked her to identify the body on Monday.

During police investigation, the woman identified herself as Rubini, 30, a resident of Karamadai-Velliyankadu. She was staying along with her three-year-old daughter Devi Shree after her husband Paul Raj left her following a dispute a couple of years ago. A few weeks ago Rubini befriended Tamil.

On Sunday Tamil called Rubini on phone and asked her to come to Saravanampatti along with the baby, promising a new life. Trusting him, Rubini came to Saravanampatti with the baby on Sunday evening. Tamil made Rubini wait near a tea stall there and took the baby along with him claiming that he would leave the baby at his grandmother's house for a few days until he found a house for rent.

Even after Rubini waited for a long time, both did not return. Rubini went searching for the baby all of night in the Saravanampatti area. The incident came to light after local residents saw the body on Monday morning. Police suspect that Tamil may have killed the child and three special teams have been deployed to nab him.
