Hyderabad: Hubby dies in couple’s suicide bid
Hyderabad: The timely intervention of two policemen on patrol at Jawaharnagar helped save the life of a woman who had attempted suicide along with her husband at their house on Monday. The man, Murali, died before police reached the spot. His wife, Priyanka, was admitted to a private hospital and her condition is stated to be critical. Bystanders recorded on mobile phones the quick action of home guard Naveen and head constable Mahipal, who rushed to the house and carried the woman to a hospital. The videos put up on social media drew many responses.
Police said Murali, 29, and Priyanka 27, residents of Padmarao Colony under Jawaharnagar police station limits, were married about two years ago and employed in private firms. At around 10.15 am, a woman living in the house next to that of the couple called ‘100’ to say that she the bodies of her neighbours were seen hanging from the ceiling.
Naveen and Mahipal, who were 4 km away from the house when the alert came, rushed to the house in their patrol van and broke open the doors. When they reached the room, they found Murali dead but Priyanka battling for life. They cut the rope and Naveen carried her to the van and got her admitted to Lifeline Hospitals where she is undergoing treatment in the emergency ward. The couple had quarrelled in the morning and this created suspicion among their neighbours. When the couple did not come out of the house, the neighbours peeped through the window of the bedroom and found them hanging and alerted police, Mr Naveen said. Murali’s relatives were later alerted about the incident.
Appreciating their efforts, Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat rewarded Mr Naveen and Mr Mahipal and informed the state police headquarters about their action.
