Quack arrested for cheating people
Hyderabad: Chaitanyapuri police arrested a quack for setting up a clinic and treating people for their ailments on Saturday. Officials seized a medical kit, stethoscope, BP checking machine, bandage and prescriptions from him. According to the police, people approached them stating that they suffered health complications after consulting the ‘doctor’.
The man was identified as G. Venkateswarlu, 49, resident of Kuntloor village in Hayathnagar.
“While we were patrolling, we received a complaint from a reliable source about the man practising medicine without qualification. Assistant sub-inspector, G. Pentaiah and two constables approached the clinic and questioned Venkateswarlu. After grilling, the man confessed that he is not a qualified doctor and that he opened the clinic himself and is providing treatment to the general public, misrepresenting that he is a qualified doctor and issuing prescriptions to patients as per his knowledge. He also got prescriptions showing himself as a senior medical practitioner and made easy money,” said the police inspector of Chaitanyapuri.
S. Saidaiah, added that he also used to refer patients for medical tests, X-rays and collected huge amounts, thereby cheating several innocent people.
Some patients suffered reactions due to his treatment and one such victim, Shivasekar, filed a complaint against him. After a case was registered, he stopped opening his clinic for some time. Later, he again started treating people.
“He destroyed all prescriptions bearing his name, to avoid identity and started issuing prescriptions on white paper. He gave treatment to two victims namely Suryakanth and Prem Kumar, who also suffered complications,” added the official.
