Indiranagar assault: Two bike-borne men held
Bengaluru: The Jeevan Bima Nagar (JB Nagar) police have arrested two bike-borne men who had molested a woman techie and assaulted her male colleague on May 9 on the 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar.
The accused have been identified as Bilal Hussain (23) and Ali Ahmed (28), two unemployed youth staying in Nagarbhavi. The police are still trying to identify the 10-member group that attacked them later. They groped the female techie near BSNL office on HAL Main Road and assaulted Sunil, who had accompanied the woman.
The incident happened around 2 am. Sunil and Sapna (name changed) had gone to Empire Hotel for dinner. As they stepped out of the hotel and reached a deserted road, two bike-borne men stopped their vehicle in front of them and began misbehaving with Sapna. When Sunil objected, they assaulted him.
Their nightmare did not end there. As they reached near BSNL office on HAL Main Road, another gang of over 10 members intercepted their way. They attacked Sunil with sticks and bricks and dragged Sapna to a nearby cricket ground and groped her.
When they approached the police, there they had to contend with their apathy. The incident took place in the early hours of May 9 and they approached the police around 12 noon on the same day, but the JB Nagar police were reluctant to file a complaint. They did so only on May 16 after they were told to do so by the city police commissioner’s office.
Additional Commissioner (East) Seemanth Kumar Singh admitted that there was a major lapse on part of the JB Nagar police and inspector Hanumanth Bajantari who was on duty and did not register a case.
He has ordered a departmental inquiry on all the station staff present on May 9 and assured that strict action will be taken against the cops responsible for the lapse.
