Chennai: Pet traders arrested at gunpoint for hoax call

On Thursday, Mustafa and Babu along with five junior' traders had a drinking party in the rented house.

Chennai: A hoax phone call to police control room after a drunken argument landed two pet traders in jail, on Thursday midnight.

According to the police, Mustafa (37) and Pattasu Babu (40) of Kancheepuram are pet traders who sell birds at Pallavaram Friday market every week. “Every week they would stay in a rented house on Gangai Amman Koil Street, Trisulam, on Thursdays and sell the birds on Fridays,” the police said.

On Thursday, Mustafa and Babu along with five ‘junior’ traders had a drinking party in the rented house. They also allegedly demanded 50 percent of their sales.“When the 5 traders refused to give the money, the duo threatened them and informed the police that 5 terrorists are staying in the city in a motive to attack airport and other places,” the police added. Alerted by the call, the Pallavaram police traced the cellphone signal and located the house. Police rounded up the house and arrested all the 7 persons at gunpoint.Although the police had released the 5 traders with a stern warning, a case was registered against the duo. They were sent to judicial custody.
