Bengaluru: EC officials seize 42 kg gold from jeep

The officials of commercial tax department have been informed for further verification and the police have taken up a case.

Bengaluru: Election Commission officials along with the Bengaluru district police confiscated 42 kg of gold being transported in a jeep on Friday. The vehicle was stopped at the Balepura check-post near Channarayapatna. The officials are on special duty to check transportation of unaccounted cash, jewellery and other goodies, which could be used as enticement for voters ahead of the assembly election on May 12. They detained three people in the jeep for further investigation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the gold belonged to a Tanishq showroom in Chennai, which had landed in Begaluru through a courier and was being taken to Chennai in the vehicle. The police said that there was no intimation regarding the transportation of gold and the people carrying it failed to produce proper documents. The officials of commercial tax department have been informed for further verification and the police have taken up a case.
