Horses used to shift ganja
Visakhapatnam: To evade police arrest while supplying ganja, smugglers are using horses for the transportation. This fact came to light when the rural police nabbed four persons, who were transporting 130 kg ganja on horses, at Arjapuram village in Kothakota mandal in Visakhapatnam Agency on Wednesday morning.
Those arrested are P. Ramana, 45, M Rajababu, 40, of T Arjapuram village of Kothakota mandal, Y. Maarayya, 55, of Bennavaram village in Kothakota mandal and V. Apparao, 35, of Mulakalabandi in Chintapalle mandal. “Ramana is the main accused. He procures ganja from interior parts of Agency and sells it to others. Rajababu, Maarayya and Apparao approached Ramana and bought 130 kg ganja. They packed it in six gunny bags and were transporting it on horses,” according to Kothakota SI M. Sirish Kumar.
“Transportation by horses is comparatively cheaper than a vehicle in Agency. Moreover, the accused thought they could escape from cops during checking.” Acting on a tip off, we nabbed them, the SI said. The plan was to shift the ganja to another vehicle after reaching some spot and then to supply it to neighbouring states. A case has been registered and the accused have been sent to remand. Three horses and Rs 10,000 cash were recovered from those arrested sent to the Goshala, he said.
