Chennai: In what started as an investigation into a simple burglary at a realtor's house in Injambakkam, the city police busted the realtor who had gotten away with the murder of three persons, including his brother-in-law and the husbands of two of his women companions. His aides had helped in administering cyanide-based lethal shots to them.
Sources said realtor Stephen (41), a resident of Hanuman Colony, Injambakkam, reported a daylight burglary of 125 sovereigns and Rs 50,000 cash from his house, on April 4, 2016 and lodged a complaint with Neelankarai police.
Preliminary investigations established the strike as an insider's job and the quantum of loss was also later established as 40 sovereigns. On the basis of analysing all the clues, the cops began screening the acquaintances of Stephen and the suspicion fell on two who were his drivers-cum-aides. During sustained interrogation, the duo spilled the beans about the heist and led the cops to one Satheesh Kumar who had masterminded it.
The suspects who were picked up had syringes and two hand-guns besides the loot intact in their possession. When the cops drilled them on the guns and syringes, it came out that Satheesh Kumar, who was an engineering graduate but hadn't landed a proper job yet, was introduced to Stephen. The realtor employed Sateesh to kill his latest victim and Satheesh received a handsome payment of Rs 1 lakh.
The hit man then hatched plans to strike at Stephen's house where he thought the realtor had stored several crores of rupees in cash. Satheesh also believed that Stephen wouldn't go to the cops because of his doubtful past. Based on Sateesh's confession, Stephen was picked up and confronted with the versions of his accomplices.
