Missing cabbie's body found in a drain in Hosur, vehicle stolen
BENGALURU: A cab driver, who went missing on March 18, was found dead near Hosur on Sunday.
The police said the deceased has been identified as Rinson and he was working with cab aggregator Ola. He was a residing in Devarajeevanahalli along with his family and hailed from Kerala.
On March 18, around 8.30 pm, Rinson was on duty and had picked up a passenger at Bagalgunte and dropped him off at Yelahanka. After a few minutes, the cab's GPS system was switched off and Rinson went missing.
His parents got worried after he did not return home and his mobile phone was also switched off. They contacted neighbours and his friends but in vain. They then went to DJ Halli police station and registered a complaint.
The police approached the Ola office and collected details regarding the last passenger who used Rinson's cab and contacted him. When questioned he told them that after he was dropped he did not know anything.
However on Sunday night, a few passersby found a body in the drain in Badrapalli in Hosur and informed the local police. When they checked they found the driving licence in his pocket. They noted that he was residing in DJ Halli and informed their counterparts in Bengaluru.
The DJ Halli police, along with Rinson's father, went to a government hospital in Hosur where the body was kept and identified it as Rinson.
It is suspected that the assailants killed him to steal the vehicle. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the killers.
