Hyderabad: Youth held for rape, had promised to marry minor

Girl's mother, who came to know of the affair, asked the youth to marry her daughter but he rejected the proposal.

HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old who had promised to marry a 17-year-old girl allegedly sexually assaulted her. A case has been registered against him on charges of rape by Rajendranagar Police. The suspect and the girl were allegedly in relation for the past two years but stopped the affair after their parents came to know about it. However, they continued to speak over phone.

According to the police, the girl is a college drop out. The suspect, identified as Sunny Samson, met her and proposed her two years ago. Since then, they had an affair. Around three months ago, both the families warned them to stay away from each other. However, they continued their relation over mobile phone.

Around ten days ago, the girl was alone at home, as her family members were away for a function. The boy who got to know about this came to the girl's home and allegedly forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her.

The girl's mother who came to know about this, questioned the boy and demanded him to marry her daughter. But he refused the proposal and said that he had no plans to marry the girl. With no further option, the girl's family approached the police on Monday evening and a case was registered.

"A case on charges of rape and one under PoCSO have been registered and the girl was sent for medical examination,” Inspector G. Suresh said. A team is searching for the absconding accused.
