Hyderabad: A jilted lover set a teenager ablaze at Ganga Nagar, within the limits of Amberpet police station, after she reportedly rejected his proposal.
“The victim was alone at her residence when the accused, Sohail, barged in, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze,” said Mr Ramesh, the Sub-Inspector of Amberpet.
The girl was rushed to Osmania Hospital by her mother at around 2 pm. The hospital authorities informed the police about the incident at around 3 pm.
It was reported that Sohail had been harassing the girl for the past eight months. The victim’s statement was recorded in front of a magistrate.
Police officers confirmed that the victim had suffered 72 per cent burns. “The victim is in a stable condition. We are going to book a case today, after which we will arrest the accused,” said Anand Kumar, the Inspector of Amberpet.
