Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police on Tuesday busted a human trafficking racket involved in trading new born babies to childless couples, and rescued a newborn female child. The woman who was operating the racket was arrested as well. The child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.
According to Police sources, they got a tip-off that a couple had put up a newborn baby for sale and conducted a raid on a residence to find a woman identified as S. Manga, along with a female baby.
Inquiries revealed that Manga and her associate Gangadhar Reddy had procured the baby from a couple in Guntur district of AP and brought her to the city with the intention to sell her to a childless couple at a high price.
While the police have rescued the child and detained Manga for further questioning, Gangadhar managed to abscond at the time of the raid and it has been learnt that he had another newborn baby with him.
Senior Police officials stated that they are in the process of tracing the biological parents of the child. They are also trying to determine if the child was given to Manga voluntarily for monetary benefits or if she had been kidnapped from her parents.
Police suspect that the duo had been indulging in trafficking children for a long time and had sold a number of babies to childless couples in the past.
"Once Gangadhar is arrested more details are likely to be brought to light," they said. The case remains under investigation....
