NRI businessman murder case judgment on March 6

Hyderabad: The judgment in the murder case of NRI businessman Chigrupati Jayaram that took place in January 2019, in which prime accused Kalvakuntla Rakesh Reddy and senior police officials are implicated, will be delivered on March 6.

I Additional Metropolitan Sessions judge K. Kusha issued the order in the presence of the 12 accused on the Nampally Court Complex premises on Monday.

Besides Rakesh Reddy, former Ibrahimpatnam ACP S. Malla Reddy, former Raidurgam SHO M. Rambabu and former Nallakunta SHO S. Srinivasulu are among the accused.

According to the police, the murder was committed after honey-trapping the victim, who was invited to Rakesh Reddy’s flat in Jubilee Hills. Reddy is alleged to have extorted a huge sum of money, blackmailed him into signing blank documents and bludgeoning Jayaram to death.

With the help of his associates, Reddy transported the body in a car to Vijayawada and abandoned the vehicle with the body on the outskirts to portray it as an accidental death. The three cops implicated are accused of assisting Reddy after the murder.

The police said they have submitted a 300-plus page chargesheet and a supplementary chargesheet, with strong evidence, indicating the role of the accused.
