Fake doctor held in Chengalpet Government Hospital

Police secured a 40-year-old woman who created a flutter in Chengalpet Government hospital on Tuesday morning by posing as a doctor.

Chennai: Police secured a 40-year-old woman who created a flutter in Chengalpet Government hospital on Tuesday morning by posing as a doctor. The woman, later identified as Shakila Bobby (40), is suspected to be suffering from mental health issues and has been sent to the Institute of Mental Health in Kilpauk for further tests. Around 7.30 am, the woman, wearing a white coat and with a stethoscope around her neck, was suspiciously loitering on the hospital campus. She walked into the wards in the hospital and enquired the patients about their condition. At times, she was spotted interacting harshly with patients, unbecoming of a doctor.

A few nurses and hospital staff who grew suspicious questioned the woman to which she claimed she was a PG student of surgery department. The woman was then taken to the office of the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Gajendran where she claimed to have come to attend exams in the college. Soon, doctors got wind of the situation at hand and informed the Chengalpet town police.

The woman reportedly told police that she had completed a course in nursing at Jipmer institute in Puducherry, but possessed an identity card from Alagappa University. Police sources said that the woman seemed to be mentally disturbed as she dreamt of becoming a doctor, but could never become one. The woman, police said, is a resident of Cheyyur in Kancheepuram district. “We have sent her for tests at the Institute of Mental Health in Kilpauk to ascertain if she has any real issues. If so, she will be treated there. If it is found that she was faking to escape, she would be booked and arrested,” a police officer said.
