Chennai: Alert municipal councillor prevents robbery
Chennai: Alertness of a municipal worker and a municipal councillor helped thwart a burglary plan by two people, who were set to decamp with money from a medical shop here on Saturday.
When municipal worker, Annamalai was clearing the garbage on Gandhi Main Road he noticed the medical shop in the vicinity open.
“The perplexed worker knocked on my door at 2am. We rushed to the spot besides alerting the shop-owner,” said V. Jagannath, ward 1 councilor.
The shutter was now closed, hinting at burglary. “With the help of the shop-owner, we took the alternative door as we did not want to mix up fingerprints,” said a police officer.
A sum of Rs 45,000 was missing. “When we were frantically searching for clues in the shop, we found out the burglar sitting near the shelves,” said Jagannath.
It was learnt that his partner who was standing outside the medical shop escaped when the team tried to nab him. Police said the main culprit and a native of West Bengal, Alauddin (43) is not a habitual burglar. Search is on for his partner.
