Crime Rate Up by 7.71 % in Warangal: CP

Hyderabad: Police commissioner Amber Kishor Jha said that Warangal city recorded a 7.71 per cent increase in overall crime rate this year compared to last year, rising from 13,489 to 14,530 cases.
The CP released the annual crime report of Warangal police commissionerate at a press conference in Hanamkonda on Tuesday. Kishor Jha said that POCSO cases increased to 36 per cent and crimes against women increased to 18 per cent. In the recently held Assembly elections, police seized '12 crores worth of materials and cash in the current year.
PD act cases were imposed against 18 members along with taking stringent actions against the persons who were indulged in illegal transport and selling of drugs. Around 1,167 women missing cases were registered during this current year of which 90 per cent of the cases were cracked, he said.
The commissioner said that the police were taking steps to increase the installation of CCTV cameras under the commissionerate limits and to prevent cyber crimes apart from taking stringent action against land grabbers and chit-fund companies harassing and creating problems for customers by not paying money.
To date, the commissionerate has not received applications for conducting New Year events. On December 31, drunk and drive tests will be conducted in the purview of the commissionerate, said the commissioner.
