Warangal/Karimnagar: In a span of six days, seven persons were killed and several others were injured in multiple road accidents on the Huzurabad-Hanamkonda stretch of national highway-563 in the Karimnagar and Warangal districts.

On December 22, five out of seven of a family belonging to Eturnagaram mandal of Mulugu district were killed after their car heading to Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple at Vemulawada was hit by a speeding lorry at Elkathurthy mandal and the two others were injured.

On December 24, several passengers were injured after the rear tyres of a TSRTC bus with 80 onboard heading towards Hanamkonda suddenly detached from its wheel hub. The incident took place on the outskirts of the same mandal.

On the next day, two persons were severely injured and eight of 10 members of two families received minor injuries after their car Tata Magic travelling from Mogullapalli mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district to Vemulawada, overturned after its steering broke near Elkathurthy.

On the very following day – December 26, two brothers returning from the funerals of their relative died after an RTC bus hit their bike at Baopet crossroads between Annasagaram and Elkathurthy.
With these multiple accidents within a week, the local people say the highway stretch at Elkathurthy mandal has become an accident-prone area.

However, the police attributed the accidents to over speeding and other traffic violations and several blind curves on the highway from Hasanparthy to Huzurabad, they said.

Meanwhile, 487 lost their lives and 1,361 persons were injured in 1,526 road accidents that occurred in 2013 under the Warangal Police Commissionerate limits, according to the police.
