Hyderabad: Cyber crimes rise due to more users
Hyderabad: Cyber crime has seen a 23 per cent increase this year with the total number of cases filed going up to 401 from 325 in 2017 and 288 in 2016. ATM and debit card fraud remained the most reported crimes.
Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar attributed this to the increase in cyber technology. Of the 401 cases, about 150 cases were detected. Overall a total of 427 cases, including from the previous years, were disposed of.
As many as 212 accused were apprehended from 17 states by CCS Hyderabad, including nine foreigners.and Rs 2.3 crore was recovered, Mr Kumar said.
“The number of job fraud cases increased from 26 in 2016 and 53 in 2017 to 60 in 2018. The number of ATM and debit card cases moved up from 77 in 2017 to 107 in 2018. Cases of stalking over SMS, emails and calls reduced from 28 to 16,” he said.
